For nearly 80 years, the Couri family has owned and operated Couristan rugs. Their humble beginnings came in New York City when the Couri Brothers was established as a direct importing business specializing in fine handmade area rugs from Persia. Back in the 1920’s this was no easy task, as the round trip to Persia took nearly two months of travel!
Early in their business, the Couri Brothers began labeling their imports with their name and the ‘stan’ suffix that was popular in Turkish towns, and thus a legendary rug company was born.
As decades flew by Couristan broadened their offerings to include imports from China, India and Pakistan. The Couri brothers continued growing their trendsetting business venture to meet the growing demand for handmade Oriental area rugs throughout America. By the mid 1960’s the company’s technological advances enabled them to produce power-loomed rugs inspired by the original Persian designs for a fraction of the cost. Thus, once again, Couristan led the international rug market to new heights.
As their business grew, Couristan quickly became a household name, and continues to be an innovative force in today’s competitive rug market.
